My culinary adventures

Yum Woon Sen

As the last Thai dish for this year, I prepared a vegetarian Yum Woon Sen ( ) with glass noodles, vegan minced meat and cocktail tomatoes this morning for the New Year’s Eve party in Winterthur. As a substitute for Nam Prik Pao, I used the mushroom Nam Prik from Yak Thai.

Yam Gai

After all the Christmas feasting and two days of soup, I was in the mood for a Thai salad this evening. So I made a quick Yam Gai ( ) with chicken breast, cherry tomatoes and some fresh herbs.

Mushrooms and Omelet

This evening I used the remaining yellow Sesbania flowers again in a Khai Jiew Dok Seno ( ). Alongside, there were Enoki mushrooms from the air fryer in the style of Hed Khem Thong Thod ( ).

Laap Moo Khua

This evening I prepared a Northern Thai Laap Moo Khua ( ). As fresh herbs, I used fish mint and rice paddy herb. There were also sour pickled mushrooms or Hed Dong ( ).

Pad Ga Prau Plaa

Something new for a change: today at lunchtime, I made Thai pad gra prau with cod. Of course, a fried egg is a must with this Pad Ga Prau Plaa ( ) dish.

Laap Moo Khua

Over the weekend I had prepared a larger batch of “Prik Laap”. With this intense spice blend from Northern Thailand, I made a Laap Moo Khua ( ) for lunch today.

Sevgin Ocakbaşi

During a walk through the Stühlinger district, Anne and I finally stopped at “Sevgin Ocakbaşi”. This Turkish grill house had been recommended to us several times. We ordered the Adana Kebab, hummus and a farmer’s salad. The skewers, bread and side dishes were very delicious, only the farmer’s salad was unusually sweet.

Khai Jiew Dok Seno

With the leftover Yellow Sesbania flowers I made a Thai Khai Jiew Dok Seno ( ) for lunch today. In addition to the flowers, I also used spring onions and shallots in this omelet.

Two Thai Salads

For dinner tonight, I had two Thai salads. First, a Yum Dok Seno ( ) with yellow Sesbania, chicken, and shrimp, as well as a Laap Goong ( ) with coarsely chopped shrimp.

Pad Pak Kwang Tung Moo Grob

While shopping at the Asian grocery store, I once again grabbed the wrong thing and bought the second cousin Choi Sam instead of Chinese broccoli. But this type of mustard greens can also be prepared in the style of Thai Pad Pak Kanaa Moo Grob together with crispy pork belly. The whole thing could be called “Pad Pak Kwang Tung Moo Grob” ( ).

Big Pork Feast

This evening we had a spontaneous visit from our old friend Sascha. He had announced himself for dinner and said he would bring some things from food sharing. The large bag full of groceries he brought threw my original cooking plans overboard, but instead treated us to delicious Thai pork dishes.

During a fun kitchen party, we prepared Nam Tok Moo ( ), Moo Pad Priau Wan ( ) and Moo Thod Gratiam ( ). As an appetizer, we had some Luk Chin Ping ( ) with the homemade Nam Jim Luk Chin ( ) that I had prepared this morning.

Khao Pad Poo

Before I left for hiking this morning, I had a quick Thai Khao Pad Poo ( ) with crayfish and egg as a late breakfast or early lunch.

Luk Chin Ping and Salad

This evening I grilled some of the Luk Chin and served them as Luk Chin Ping ( ). The sweet-sour-spicy Nam Jim Luk Chin ( ) dip was simply perfect with the delicious meatballs. I also made a Yam Gai ( ) with chicken, baby corn, cherry tomatoes and fresh herbs.

Luk Chin and Nam Jim

This afternoon I picked up a package with the latest products from Yak Thai at the parcel shop. Among other things, it contained two package of Look Chin ( ), one made from beef and the other one from pork. There was as well the matching sauce Nam Jim Luk Chin ( ), which is not yet available in the shop.
