My culinary adventures

Gai Thod Nam Pla

This evening I had Thai Gai Thod Nam Pla ( ) again, with a Tam Thua Fak Yao ( ) as a side dish.

Laap Moo

This evening I made a super spicy Laap Moo ( ) with minced pork, fresh herbs, and plenty of chilli powder.

Gai Thod

Thai Gai Thod Nam Pla ( ) works surprisingly well with thick chicken thighs in the air fryer. I had it for lunch today together with the leftover Tam Sua.

Thai BBQ

Tonight we fired up our little Konro grill for the first time this year to grill some Thai skewers. Among the items on the grill were Look Chin Ping ( ), Plaa Muek Ping ( ) and Sai Krok Isaan ( ). As a side dish there was Tam Sua ( ). For dipping we had Nam Jim Talee ( ) and Nam Jim Look Chin ( ). We used several Yak Thai products for this grilling evening.

Kao Yok

With some preparation early in the morning, I made Kao Yok ( ) for lunch today, a dish from the far south of Thailand. In this Hakka dish, pork belly is first fried and then braised together with pickled mustard greens.

Gai Thod and Salad

This evening I made Thai Gai Thod Nam Pla ( ) in the air fryer again. I also made a simple Yum Makuea Thet ( ) following a recipe from Andy Ricker’s book Pok Pok.

Yam Kha Min Kaau

This evening I prepared a Thai Yum Kha Min Kaau ( ) once again, this time the salad with white turmeric strips also contained grilled chicken.

Tom Djiu

This morning I already put on a broth with stewing beef, to prepare a Thai Tom Jio ( ) with potatoes and Holy Basil during my lunch break. The recipe came once again from the book Bangkok by Leela Punyaratabandhu.

Poo Nueng

This evening I steamed crabs and served them with the Thai dip Nam Jim Talee ( ) as Poo Nueng ( ).

Mhu Sam Chan Pad Tao Djiau

For lunch today I fried pork belly together with the “three friends” coriander root, garlic and pepper, then braised it in a sauce with yellow bean paste. This Thai Mhu Sam Chan Pad Tao Djiau ( ) was super tasty.

Nuea San Nai Pad Ga Prau

For lunch today I made a Thai Nuea San Nai Pad Ga Prau ( ) with braised stewing beef. The recipe idea came from the book Bangkok by Leela Punyaratabandhu.

Two Thai Soups

For lunch today I used up some more leftovers and cooked two Thai soups with them. First a Khao Tom Moo Sap ( ) with Riceberry instead of jasmine rice. And then a Kuai Tiao Yentafo ( ).

Thai Leftovers

For lunch today I fried up some leftover Riceberry rice, which I’d quite cheekily call . On the side was an omelette filled with minced pork and some vegetables, or in Thai a Khai Jiew Yad Sai Moo Sap ( ).

Green Curry with Sides

This evening I had a Thai Gaeng Keow Wan Nuea ( ) with beef, baby eggplants and green asparagus. As a side I also prepared Ajaad Thaeng Gwa ( ). For seasoning there was Prik Nam Plaa ( ) as well as pickled Thai eggplants.

Ba Mie Mhu Daeng

During my lunch break today I used up the leftover Moo Daeng in a Ba Mee Moo Daeng ( ) soup.

Three Dishes from Northern Thailand

This evening I made Sup Pak Gai ( ) from Italian puntarelle, Gai Thod Thakrai ( ) and pork with spicy Nam Prik Noom ( ). As a side I had Riceberry for the first time instead of jasmine rice or sticky rice. That is what happens when you listen to the Sabai Talk Podcast about northern Thai cuisine while out hiking.

Pad Prik Khing

During my lunch break, I made a Thai Pad Prik Khing ( ) with thinly sliced pork belly today.

Khao Tom Mhu Sap

When there is no bread left in the house, Thai breakfast fills the gap in the form of a rice soup with minced pork balls, Khao Tom Moo Sap ( ).
