Foodie Diary (May 2026)

My culinary adventures

Two Thai Salads

After returning from Switzerland to Freiburg this evening, i prepared a Thai Tam Strobori ( ) with fresh strawberries that we had bought at a stand on the way home. There was also an improvised Yum Mama ( ).

Yum Normai Farang Moo Sap

For dinner today I made a Thai Yum Normai Farang Moo Sap ( ) with green asparagus and minced pork.

Gai Thod and Yam

This evening there was a Thai Yum Ton On Thua Lan Tau ( ) with pea shoots, minced meat and prawns. And once again there was Gai Thod Nam Pla ( ) and an ice-cold Singha beer.

Khanom Jeen Nam Ya Phak Dai

At lunchtime there was a very spicy Khanom Jeen Nam Ya Phak Dai ( ) from Southern Thailand. That is a fish curry served over rice noodles.

Nam Tok Moo Sam Chan

This evening I made a spicy Nam Tok Moo Sam Chan ( ) from Isaan.

Moo Sam Chan Pad Kapi

At lunchtime today, I had Moo Sam Chan Pad Kapi ( ), thinly sliced pork belly stir-fried with plenty of shrimp paste.

Pad Ton On Thua Lan Tau

This evening there were pea shoots, which I stir-fried Thai-style as Pad Ton On Thua Lan Tau ( ). I think I have found a new favourite vegetable.

Nam Tok Hed

For dinner today, I made a Thai Nam Tok Hed ( ) with shiitake mushrooms. As a side, there were fresh pea shoots.

Gaeng Panaeng Look Chin

For lunch today, I had a southern Thai Gaeng Panaeng Look Chin ( ) with meatballs and pea eggplants.

Pad Ga Prau Hed Hom

For lunch today, I had a very spicy Pad Ga Prau Hed ( ) made with fresh shiitake mushrooms and, of course, a fried egg on top.

Dinner

This evening there was a Yam Hua Pli Thod Grob ( ) with fried banana blossom, along with Khao Pad ( ) and Gai Thod Nam Pla ( ) as a side dish.

Nam Prik Ong

This evening the northern Thai dip Nam Prik Ong ( ) was on the menu again. For lack of pork cracklings, this time served with cassava chips, cucumber slices and lettuce leaves.

Moo Thod

The latest newsletter from Hungry in Thailand gave me the idea for this crispy Moo Thod ( ) in the evening.

Pad Prik Gaeng Gari Gai

This lunchtime I stir-fried chicken with pea eggplants in yellow curry paste. Served with rice, this Thai Pad Prik Gaeng Gari Gai ( ) makes a super quick lunch.
