Tulsi or Tulasi (तुलसी)

“Tulsi” and “Tulasi” (तुलसी) are common names in India for “Holy Basil” (Ocimum tenuiflorum or Ocimum sanctum). The plant originates from the Indian subcontinent, where it is closely associated with Ayurvedic cooking and the veneration of Vishnu, and is considered sacred. In terms of flavor, Tulsi most closely resembles a blend of cloves and allspice with a peppery note.

In Thailand the plant is called , sometimes also transliterated as “Bai Kra Pao”. In Laos it is known as and in Cambodia as .
