Riceberry (ข้าวไรซ์เบอร์รี่)

Riceberry is a whole grain rice variety from Thailand with a deep purple color. It was developed in 2002 at the Rice Science Center of Kasetsart University in Nakhon Pathom. The variety was created by crossing local purple rice with jasmine rice and is grown mainly in northern and northeastern Thailand during the rainy season.

You can find Riceberry in well-stocked Asian supermarkets that also carry other products from Thailand, where it is sold under the English name “Black Cargo Rice”. In Thai, this rice variety is called “Khao Ribori” ( ข้าวไรซ์เบอร์รี่ ) or “Khao Khlong Dam” ( ข้าวกล้องดำ ).
